A groundbreaking event for the new “Veterans Village” along Landau Boulevard in Cathedral City.

City leads put shovels in the ground to start construction on the 48 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units.

City officials and other stakeholders held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for a new housing project for veterans.

Veterans Village of Cathedral City will offer 48 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units for veterans. The project is located at the corner of Landau Boulevard and Vega Road in Cathedral City. The site will also offer amenities like a 3,000 square foot community center, a swimming pool, and a community garden.

On Friday, April 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., key project stakeholders will hold a virtual groundbreaking ceremony for the Veterans Village of Cathedral City starting with presentations at the Salvation Army’s outdoor courtyard and then walking across the street to the actual construction site for a groundbreaking.

Mental Health Systems/TURN is pleased to share the news that we have been chosen to be the provider of services for an upcoming project in Cathedral City that has been designed as a state-of-the-art residential facility.

Our country’s veterans have sacrificed so much for our nation, and MHS/TURN is doing all we can to support their needs. The project is proceeding according to plans, with construction anticipated to start at the end of this year, as we mobilize our veteran-focused outreach.

The widespread impact of COVID-19 isolation measures and economic impacts is taking its toll on our nation’s collective mental health: About a third of the American have reported feelings of uncertainty, anxiousness and loneliness, according to a recent Census Bureau survey.

Dr. Laura V Otis-Miles, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Mental Health Systems/TURN, recently penned an opinion piece on how our nation can’t fully recover from the pandemic without rethinking its supports for mental health. The piece was run in the Capitol Weekly website, which is widely read by California policy makers, advocacy groups and state elected officials.

Mental Health Systems/TURN has worked diligently to address this road block to recovery by teaming up with the City of San Diego to offer a novel storage program. The City now offers three Storage Connect Centers, two of which are operating by MHS/TURN – in the neighborhoods of El Cerrito and Logan Heights.
