Recovery can begin with a single opportunity and the courage to take it.
At North County Center for Change, the case management and treatment provider for San Diego’s North County Division Adult Drug Court, participants receive counseling, case management, and supportive services designed to help them build healthy, productive lives free from justice involvement. For one former participant, that support became the foundation for a complete life transformation.
“For ten years, my life was defined by addiction, homelessness, and the consequences of choices that led to my children being removed from my care. I spent years in tents on the side of the freeway and hid in bushes just to stay out of the weather during winter seasons.
In 2021, while in custody and facing a four-year prison sentence for identity theft with a prior, a friend of mine suggested I ask for Drug Court. That moment changed the entire direction of my life.
Today, I am present, intentional, and living proof of what Drug Court can do when you commit to your recovery and allow consistency to reshape your life. I have five years clean now, and I’ve changed the entire trajectory of my life.
Drug Court didn’t get keep me out of prison. It gave me safety, structure, and a place where I could finally stop running.”
